Prosperident's Scott Clifford is one of the most capable dental fraud investigators on the planet. The long line of convictions he has obtained recently grew. As a result of Scott's investigation, Allyson Steffensen was convicted of two counts of fraud.
Happily for the victims, Steffensen was able to make full repayment (See the facing article for a discussion by about financial recovery), which meant that she was able to avoid prison time.
Embezzlement is a dry, boring topic, right? Not when we talk about it! Our daily contact lets us use real-life cases to bring this topic to life, and to bring out the "teaching moments" that make time spent with us worthwhile.

Is Investigating Throwing "Good Money After Bad"?
One of the biggest misconceptions about being a victim of embezzlement is that victims do not make financial recovery, and that paying to investigate employee theft is "throwing good money after bad." This is categorically not true. Every victim who has a professional investigation performed by us will get at least some recovery. The victims we work with on average recover the cost of their investigation several times over.
In the video below, Prosperident CEO David Harris explains the process of financial recovery for victims.
While there are many non-financial reasons to find out what happened, if you are, or think you might be a victim, let's have a chat about the recovery potential from an investigation. Click HERE to arrange a time to speak with us.
The View from the CEO's Chair
I caught a great article yesterday on DrBicuspid.com written by my friend Kevin Henry. Kevin's article is titled "5 reasons why now is the time for annual planning in your dental practice," and the theme of the article how proactivity can result in improvements in everything from patient care to your practice's financial management.
And that is exactly where we come in. Our Owner Proactive Strategies is the leading-edge product that helps practice owners reduce embezzlement risks and improve their financial controls. Lowering your risk of embezzlement doesn't have to be onerous or expensive; strategies like a proper allocation of duties among your team are "one and done" actions that can greatly increase your protection. We will find the holes in your systems and point you in the right direction.
If you ask any embezzlement victim, they will tell you that they wished they had been proactive.
OPS is effective. In the past two months, we have had two clients who, as a result of using the controls we taught them, realized that they had embezzlement issues and were able to act quickly and prevent further losses. Neither dentist is happy that they were stolen from, but both are grateful that their systems did what they are supposed to. To read what our clients say about OPS, click HERE.
As you are starting to think about things you want to accomplish in 2025, tightening your financial controls is something that should be on your radar. I'd be happy to explain the process - why don't you CLICK HERE to set up a time for a no-obligation chat?
Yours truly,
David Harris
