Let’s think about the control systems in place in your practice. Everything from the “balancing” done by staff at the end of each day to what you as a practice owner review to how the burglar alarm in your practice operates.
The systems that most practices have can be analogized to a big filling in a molar.
If you started your practice before 1995, or if you bought a practice from someone who started it before 1995, the original systems in your practice probably pre-dated computerization. Those systems were implemented at a time when the only ways that practices got paid were cash and checks; direct deposits to a practice’s bank account, third party payers like CareCredit, and the evil known as virtual credit cards did not exist.
Those of you who know me realize that I spent my early adulthood wearing an army uniform. I invested hundreds of hours in the 1970s and 1980s learning about (as it was then) the Soviet Union's approach to fighting a war.
The invasion of Ukraine has been an awful event and a humanitarian disaster, and clearly it will take decades to rebuild the country. What has been noteworthy is how little Russian tactics have evolved since the 1980s, and that their mistakes in this campaign are almost the same ones the USSR would have made four decades ago. Pictures of burning Russian tanks on CNN are a stark reminder of what happens when people do not innovate.
Fortunately, dentistry is not mired in the past like the Russians seem to be. I had a conversation with our upcoming webinar guest Linda Miles, who has been working with dentists since the 1960s, and she reminded me of how successful practices require an artistic melding of the innovative and the traditional. While some elements of dentistry have been revolutionized over my lifetime, other things like good verbal skills from doctor and staff have not.
Discussing what has changed, as well as fundamentals that have not, is going to be a cornerstone of our webinar with Linda, and the chance to learn from her should not be missed.
Registration is happening at a brisk pace for this event. With five weeks to go before we welcome Linda, we already have over 1,000 registrants, and we are on pace to shatter our previous attendance record. You can reserve your place HERE. We go live May 5 at 8:00 pm Eastern / 5:00 pm Pacific.
