When we wrapped up our successful webinar series, we told you that we will be returning for special events. And happily, a very special one is coming up.
We are pleased beyond words to have Dr. Roy Shelburne joining us for a hugely important topic on January 20 at 8:00 pm Eastern. Roy's topic is sure to captivate - Insurance Fraud, What You Don't Know CAN Hurt You.
Roy spent time in prison on this exact issue and now helps other dentists avoid the fate he suffered.
It's funny how your perspective changes as an adult. I remember as a child how slowly the clock seemed to move between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Now that time is a blur. Between preparations for Christmas, kids coming home from college, and year-end stuff for Prosperident, I'm scared that if I blink, the entire month will vanish.
While most of us look upon this season as a joyous one, sadly for some, that is not the case. The holiday season is not always about abundance. For some of us, stress is caused by a lack of time. Others feel financial strain. Christmas, and all that goes with it, costs money. And for some, the desire to do things for their family exceeds their financial resources. We know that December and January are the most active months for embezzlement, and the cause should be obvious.
In light of this, what can a practice owner do? A client said something tremendously profound to me, "trust systems, not people." He is so right -- in many practices, the only reason that embezzlement has not happened is that the staff made a choice not to steal. This situation is clearly a precarious one for a practice owner because the practice is one bad hire or one employee under pressure away from being victimized.
Curing this problem on your own can be daunting. "We weren't taught this in dental school" is a common utterance. The systems in many practices have not evolved much since the days before practices were computerized and when many offices were managed by the dentist's spouse.
If you do feel vulnerable and don't know where to start, we can help. Our knowledgeable Owner Proactive Strategies team has helped hundreds of practice owners implement systems and gain confidence in their ability to oversee the finances of their practices.
If you would like to have a one-on-one conversation about how to lessen your exposure, I'm happy to chat. Click HERE to set up a time for us to speak.
In the meantime, I speak for all of us at Prosperident when I wish you a marvelous holiday season!
