On November 8, 2023, an Atlantic County Grand Jury indicted Suzanne Conover, 49, of Brigantine, on one count of Second-Degree Theft by Failure to Make Required Disposition.
Investigation into the theft arose when an office assistant at Giegerich Orthodontics in Galloway Township noticed discrepancies in a patient’s billing file. The head of the practice subsequently notified law enforcement who began a criminal investigation.
That investigation found that Conover, who was employed as the practice’s office manager for approximately 10 years, took cash payments made by patients and then converted the money to her own use.
This conduct was found to have continuously occurred for approximately six years.
Specifically, Conover would accept cash payments from patients and mask the fact by reflecting either a credit card or check payment in the ledger. She would then deposit the cash into her personal account, primarily at a local ATM during the work day.
During the continuing course of these thefts, Conover is estimated to have stolen $109,000 in total.
