Investigators with the York Regional Police Major Fraud Unit have charged a 47-year-old Markham woman in connection with a more than $200,000 employment insurance fraud.
In August 2015, officers began an investigation after receiving a complaint from Service Canada about a series of employment insurance frauds that began in October 2008. Service Canada investigators had uncovered a total of $232,623 that was paid out following fraudulent benefit claims linked to the same suspect who used more than 60 different stolen identities.
Following a lengthy investigation, the suspect was identified and was arrested and charged.

• Fraud Over $5,000
• Utter Forged Document
• Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
• Breach of Probation
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on February 18, 2016.
