Bobbie Kay from Vancouver is accused of stealing $123,000 from a Vancouver dental office where she worked as an office manager since 2015.
Bobbie A. Kay, 57, appeared Tuesday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of first-degree theft, forgery and first-degree identity theft. Judge Suzan Clark set her bail at $10,000, and she is scheduled to be arraigned July 1.
The doctor who owns Grin and Bear It Family Dental, 9513 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd. reported accounting discrepancies totaling $123,320 that she said Kay was responsible for, according to a probable cause affidavit. The doctor hired a forensic investigator to review the business’s accounts, who then provided a report to the Vancouver Police Department.
The report states Kay issued unauthorized checks, skimmed cash, overpaid payroll and made unauthorized Amazon purchases, according to court records. Kay allegedly took more than $15,000 in cash and did not deposit the money into the business’s account, the affidavit states.
Police verified that Bobbie Kay used a stamp of the doctor’s signature to issue fraudulent checks to herself totaling $77,076. Investigators also found that Kay overpaid herself $25,812 and sent $2,587 worth of Amazon purchases to herself, according to court records.
The affidavit states that as a result of Kay overpaying herself, the owner paid an extra $2,194 in employer taxes.
