Embezzlement can take many forms. Lizbeth Sanchez, a former dental office employee, is accused of tampering with a computer at an Illinois practice after she was fired and illegally performing teeth whitening offsite without having a dental license, according to multiple stories published on September 12.
Lizbeth Sanchez, 33, who previously handled accounts receivable at Bull Valley Dentistry in McHenry, IL, was charged on September 10 with two felony counts of practicing without a license and five counts of computer tampering. If Sanchez, of Round Lake, IL, is found guilty of the license violations, she faces a maximum sentence of up to three years in prison plus fines, according to reports.
Between December 2022 and January 2024, Sanchez allegedly advertised and performed prescription-grade teeth whitening services without a license and without the direct supervision or direction of a medical professional. She reportedly did not perform any dental services at Bull Valley.
Between February 2017 and January 2024, Sanchez purportedly added a software program to the computer system at the dental practice without the business's consent. She reportedly did this to access the practice's computer system remotely and continued to enter the system after she lost her job, according to reports.
Furthermore, Sanchez allegedly accessed the computer system remotely and changed employment records to hide the times she entered the system without proper authorization.
Additionally, Sanchez reportedly used the dental practice's computer to order unauthorized medical supplies, and she purportedly accessed the system to reduce the amount of money her family owed for dental services. She allegedly reduced the amount owed by $400, according to news stories.
